Automations is a small trigger to action rules engine: when X happens, do Y. It is deliberately scoped to what a client-only browser app can actually deliver, rather than pretending to more than that.
Each rule has a trigger, an optional condition, and an ordered list of actions, evaluated by a real foreground scheduler. Every rule can be test-run on demand, and every run is kept in a persisted history.
The single most powerful action a rule can take is running one of your configured Agents, so a rule can say "every weekday at 8am, run my News Agent with today's date" and hand the rest of the work to a real autonomous run, not a canned notification.
